District Wins Occupational Safety & Health Award

The Abbotsford School District is the proud recipient of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Award, for “2017 Achievement Recognition – Organization Over 500 Employees”. Each year, the BC/Yukon Region of CSSE recognizes organizations that demonstrate an exceptional commitment and effort in the field of occupational health & safety.

“The Abbotsford Board of Education is incredibly proud to have our School District recognized for another year in a row for such an accomplishment at the provincial level. This award acknowledges not only a dedication to teamwork, but a passion and commitment to lead our organization with the most effective and innovative practices in workplace safety,” stated Shirley Wilson, Board Chair. “On behalf of my colleagues on the Board of Education, I extend our congratulations to everyone who contributed to this outstanding achievement.”

Some of the District’s key safety efforts, which was acknowledged by the awarding body, included:

  • Bring Your Best Organizational Health Strategy
  • Water Quality Action Plan
  • Contractor Coordination Program
  • Electrical Safety Program
  • Workplace Safety Orientation Video
  • NAOSH Week Promotion Including Team Prizes

“Pursing safety awards, like NAOSH, is important because it brings together employees and employers, who are working towards a common purpose – keeping everyone safe at work,” noted Marnie Wright, Associate Superintendent, Human Resources.

The award was presented to Abbotsford School District JOHS Committee at the CSSE – BC Achievement Recognition Awards in November 28, 2018.
